Welcome! We’re so glad you’ve found WA. You’re in for a life-changing experience.
Here’s some help getting started on your journey recovering from workaholism, activity addiction, and/or work avoidance.
First Steps: Get Acquainted with the WA Program
- Read ”A Brief Guide” to WA.
- Gradually, a little at a time—this is not a race!—begin reading basic WA literature.
Hint: the first few sections of the Workaholics Anonymous Book of Recovery (2nd ed., 2015, pp. 1-21) are eye-opening. - Attend as many different Groups’ meetings as possible. [disclaimer]
- And return to the ones where you feel most comfortable.
- Don’t be afraid to ask at meetings for experience, strength, and hope. (We’ve all been newcomers, too.)
- Get contact information for people who have what you want.
- Reach out to them for more ideas and support.
Next Step: Go Through the Twelve Steps in Workaholics Anonymous
- Read “Embracing the Twelve Steps with the Help of Others” in the WA Step study workbook (Workaholics Anonymous Book of Discovery, 2010, pp. 8-17).
- Read about “Sponsorship in Workaholics Anonymous.”
- When you are ready, ask a person or people of your choice to help you go through the Steps.
Most Important Step: Stick with Us!
- Remember this WA slogan: “Keep coming back! It happens.”
- Sign up at the foot of this page to receive emails from WA with news, opportunities, and conferences (the best!), as well as other members’ writings with experience, strength, and hope.
- Be patient with yourself.
